Academic space at BCH Oakland is located throughout the hospital, and laboratory research is situated almost exclusively at the 5700 MLK Research Building, located at 5700 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd in Oakland, which is a few blocks away from the main hospital. The 5700 MLK Research Building provides 80,000 square feet of laboratory and other research space.

As of January 1, 2025, all academic space at BCH Oakland is managed by UCSF Facilities, and space governance defaults to UCSF School of Medicine space principles. Academic programming at the 5700 MLK Research Building is under the control of the Department of Pediatrics. Space requests should be directed to the department at [email protected] effective July 1, 2025.

UCSF Facilities oversees all building operations for occupants of the 5700 MLK Research Building. The senior facilities manager for the site is Jeff Mills, who can guide understanding about who to contact for building management assistance, how to bring on volunteers and visitors, security access, and other related issues.
