Moonlighting Policy

The policy for eligible moonlighting activities for residents and clinical fellows are managed and monitored by BCH Oakland’s Graduate Medical Education Office. UCSF trainees who wish to perform additional clinical service must coordinate with their home departments to ensure that privileges and approvals are granted in advance of performing any clinical work. Please reach out to the training program coordinator or manager in your home department for information and guidance.

External moonlighters sponsored by the academic departments to provide coverage at BCH Oakland are also appointed and managed by the department, including verifying a valid certificate of insurance to be at BCH Oakland and executing the service agreement and payment for services after they are rendered. Please refer to the process guidance

Training Verifications

Trainees who completed their training at BCH Oakland should contact the Graduate Medical Education Office at BCH Oakland for verification of their training. Please contact the office at [email protected] or calling (510) 428-3414.

UCSF trainees who completed a rotation at BCH Oakland but fulfilled their training through a UCSF program should contact the sponsoring academic department. For information about who to contact in each department, please go to Training Verifications | UCSF Medical Education.

Observerships

UCSF BCH Oakland welcomes potential visiting scholars who wish to shadow for additional development. The process for being approved to shadow will depend on the status of the host, level of prior training and affiliation of the applicant. In all cases, the visiting scholar would only be shadowing their host on a short-term basis, would be prohibited from having any direct patient contact, and would not have access to any institutional systems. Visiting scholars at BCH Oakland must follow both UCSF guidelines and BCH Oakland policies regarding observerships to be considered.
