Home to a pediatric residency program, pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship program, and pediatric emergency medicine fellowship program, BCH Oakland provides residents and fellows with an unparalleled experience that combines community-based medical training with innovation and tertiary specialization. BCH Oakland is the home to the only Level One Pediatric Trauma Center in northern California and the only inpatient pediatric rehabilitation unit in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Trainees in UCSF-hosted programs rotate at BCH Oakland to receive a diversified and comprehensive experience. Fellowships in Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, and Pediatric Surgery offer a subspecialty education that have both great breadth and appropriate balance. Grand Rounds
UCSF BCH Oakland Grand Rounds are a weekly forum for clinicians to discuss the latest developments in pediatric care, allowing child healthcare providers to gain new knowledge about a wide range of pediatric topics and enhance their clinical skills. Grand Rounds are held each Tuesday at 8:00 am – typically in the BCH Oakland Outpatient Center Auditorium. Grand Rounds video archive. (Password: CHRCO (case-sensitive)).
Pediatric Grand Rounds hosted by the UCSF Department of Pediatrics at Mission Bay are held every Thursday from 12:00-1:00 pm via Zoom or in the William and Susan Oberndorf Auditorium at Mission Bay Hospital A1602 from September to June. Moonlighting Policy
The policy for eligible moonlighting activities for residents and clinical fellows are managed and monitored by BCH Oakland’s Graduate Medical Education Office. UCSF trainees who wish to perform additional clinical service must coordinate with their home departments to ensure that privileges and approvals are granted in advance of performing any clinical work. Please reach out to the training program coordinator or manager in your home department for information and guidance.
External moonlighters sponsored by the academic departments to provide coverage at BCH Oakland are also appointed and managed by the department, including verifying a valid certificate of insurance to be at BCH Oakland and executing the service agreement and payment for services after they are rendered.
